Setting the bar

All of you wonderful readers have mde me realize that. even though I was assuming that I was writing for my own amusement and pleasure, there are people all over the world who now will search out this simple little blog.

And my thoughts and my fingers and my sense of humor are kind of freezing up, even though it is a beautiful day in my neighborhood. I am distracted by the men, pounding and cutting and repairing the deck across the way. A huge tree fell across the deck, not last Thursday, when we had ten tornados touch down in Ohio, near, but not on, us. This accident happened in an earlier circular high wind, and it looks as if it almost took out not only their deck, but a beautiful sculpture in the yard by Alfred Tibor, who survived the Nazi death camps and made the horror of them live on with the anguish of his stylized figures.

I do not want to disappoint you. Even more, I do not want to disppoint myself with careless writing; I have already inserted and erased commas all over the place. I will read this over and decide whether I just have the late Sunday afternoon blahs, or whether I need another day to get over myself.

These two days have been a lot for a 90 year old blogger to comprhend. But she knows enough to realize that such a miracle as the BBC has wrought happens pretty infrequently.

Next blog, I think I will try to trace back to the beginning, how this all began. We may have to go back to Adam and Eve.

  1. Dear Mrs Greene,

I can only imagine what it must be like to be suddenly catapulted to fame by way of a BBC video clip. It says that you have 254 followers and others like me who have not registered as a follower but will nevertheless read your blogs.

My advice for what it's worth, is that you ought to continue writing the blog for yourself and forget about your many, many fans around the world.

I have read through a lot of the comments and the underlying message seems to be that people have been captivated by your honesty, your good humour, they have been touched by the twinkle in your eye and your inner strength as well as your ability to embrace new technology.

So may you continue bloging and sharing your thoughts and insights with us.

With best wishes, Bronte (which by the way is a pseudonym - writing to you from Tunisia in North Africa).

It's great to share your thoughts with others, to come many more posts.
    Best Regards :)

  4. Hello Mrs. Greene
Excuse my rudeness for not welcoming you properly in my previous comment, so intent was to convey my respects in the appropriate language, that I forgot the courtesies.
I hope not to have offended by it.
Again, best regards from Chiapas, Mexico.

  5. Hello Ms Greene,

You truly are a fantastic woman and a great example to the older generation. I myself teach some of the older generation how to gain access to the internet and what they might be able to achieve using this new (relatively) medium. Now I am able to direct them to this blog as an example of what is possible.

    Keep doing what you do

  8. please don't get self conscious Mrs Greene (easy to say I know)....just write whatever you want to! If it makes you happy that's good enough. Here's my cardinal rule that helps me when I'm stuck "Don't get it right, get it written!"

  9. Dear Phyllis,

You writting from your heart just the way you are is what totally captivated everyone.

Forget that all of us are here and write just as you did. We are not here to judge you, just to listen learn and appreciate your wisdom and humor.

You are a beautiful person, carry on being who you are and writing the way you do.

Look forward to hearing more lovely stories about your brother at the rib place, or your golf with your hubby, and your friend that you have had for 80 years. How marvelous!!!!!!!!

    Big hug from Sunny Cyprus,

  10. Hello again Mrs Greene,

hope you are well and happy.

Ten tornados? Jesus...I wouldn't want to be anywhere near them. I hope it is not a common metereological phenomenon in Ohio...maybe the climate change is the cause of it!
Anyway...I live in North of Greece-West Macedonia, in a small town called Florina, it's by the borders with Albania and former Yugoslavia, and I have to say that we see some heavy rains and snow during winter but thanks to God we never had to witness a tornado!
I hope the weather will be fine tomorrow and that the sun for once more will rise bright and cheerful upon you.
    Best Wishes
    Katerina

  15. Found you! How exciting to have connected with so many all at once. Bill, Judi and I have been blogging since April as caregivers of our aging parents. It has been a wonderful experience both for the opportunity to express what we are experiencing and learning along the way as caregivers and as aging adults ourselves. I think the friends we are making on line are a great bonus. As you say, it is wonderful to be able to make these connections without ever having to leave the room. We continue to wish you and D.G all the best.

  16. Dear Mrs. Greene,

I was touched and inspired by your wonderful attitude towards the life you've had and continue to enjoy. I'm about to turn 21, and have been blogging for 5 years now, when I started traveling. I don't follow many other bloggers because I'm so busy, but I will certainly follow yours!! I can tell just by your attitude that you have many words of wisdom to bestow on my generation.
    Thank you for sharing!

  18. Dear Ms. Greene,

I too saw the BBC clip and was going to comment on that, but now I'm wondering if I might know you! I lived in Columbus between 1995 and 2005, various neighborhoods but mostly around the OSU campus and Clintonville, and you look very familiar. At any rate, I was happy to check out your blog - I'm sure by now hundreds of people have said this, but it certainly is inspirational.

I was wondering if you might have some sort of general advice for taking up computers when you weren't raised with them - how you did it, perhaps. I know you had the advantage of being a writer already; that had to help. My mother is interested, but unfortunately she doesn't have a lot of patience, and when I've tried to help she tends to get flustered and then get angry, and she shuts it all down and walks away. But she is good at hands-on learning in other areas (she's always been fantastic at house repair, crafts, etc.) If you had any recollections of what worked well for you or for older friends or family members, we'd love to hear them!

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with the rest of the blogosphere! I've really enjoyed what I've read so far, and will go back shortly and read more. :)

Take care and have a lovely day!
